Spent all weekend and Labor Day in Chicago. Had a great time, ate good food, saw the drummer from fall out boy, payed way too much for cigarettes, got some records, sprayed water on people from the 5th floor, slept on that very same floor covered in sweat all night, tried jumping onto the roof, turned into statues when the cops went by.

Alycia and I have been planning on moving there next year, and this was just a preview. I didn't want to leave that place. Everything about it is awesome. Except the constant smell of butt, and being anywhere near Wrigley field.

I start school tomorrow, I only have one class but it's been like 3 years since I graduated so it's going to be pretty weird. Hopefully starting Second City in October. I only have one class at Mott right now so I can sort of ease back into school.

Possibly going to Ann Arbor this weekend to hang out with Taylor, going to be awesome.

SEPTEMBER 10TH THIS WILL DESTROY YOU / LYMBEC SYSTEM!!!

    <lj:music>Maps & Atlases - Ted Zancha</lj:music>

Went to BFE to the Oh, Sleeper show last night. It was amazing, of course. This band played though called a kiss for jersey", worst name ever. But they were really good. The crowd sucked though and I could tell that they knew that. So I wanted to support them so I bought a cd. Definitely not as good as I thought, haha. I really don't like it.

But anyways. War of Ages played, and they were insane. The singer was talking about how he was abused sexually, mentally, physically, and that his dad was a heroin addict and the leader of a white supremacy group. He said "after everything I've gone through, the only thing that kept me alive was a hope I found in Jesus Christ." I wish everyone could see Him as that. As a hope, and not just some formula. Some check list. These preachers on t.v. keep making God out to be something money related, something only for the wealthy, something for those who are, in their own eyes, "pure". Makes me think of lyrics from Lecrae, "you told me come as I am but I smell like smoke, my whole life's full of sin 'cause it's all I know." It says "Come as you are", right there. It doesn't say, "come when I think you're good enough", because we're already good enough. From the day we were born we were good enough. Christianity isn't about cutting things from your life. It's about adding things. Adding things like, love for others, humility, inner peace, peace with your enemies, and total selflessness. For anyone who reads this, and has been turned away from Christianity and everything that has to do with it because of some fat old white guy who said "whoever tithes the most will get into heaven faster", on his behalf, I'm sorry for that. I'm sorry for most everything on the Christian television station. "His grace is new with every rising of the Sun."

MOSHERS
Here's one thing I really wanted to write about though. When dancing at shows first started, it was because people enjoyed the music so much that they wanted to move. They wanted to have fun, and get to know people they've never met before through something they both love. That is not how it is today. No one dances because they enjoy it, they dance because it gives them some sort of status. I was watching this kid at the show last night. He was standing by himself, kind of glancing at the pit every once in a while. Then another kid came up and said something to him, immediately he starts two stepping. Now, I was never a dancer but I've seen a lot of them before, and this kid looked like he had no idea what he was doing. Then he kept looking at the other kids for some sort of approval or something. It's really disgusting. Then there were these two younger kids watching them, and it looked like they wanted to try it out or something. So they get in there, and are just laughing and having fun. Then the other "real moshers" were looking at them like they were idiots. Then one kid did one of those fake punch things at the kids face, then another kid threw his hat at them. It's so stupid. It makes me so mad that probably 10% of those kids were actually there to see the bands.

What is going on?

    <lj:music>red light - the strokes</lj:music>

I had a weird thought today. I guess it's not a weird thought, it's just weird that this memory came into my mind for no reason.

Cornerstone 07 Taylor got kicked in the head in the pit during August Burns Red. They made an announcement over the mic that he was at the first aid trailer. As Cities Burn was about to play and I was like "dang, we're going to miss them. Well I'm sure everyone else heard that and went over there. I should go anyways." So I went, and it took me forever to find the place. But I got in there and just as I thought everyone we knew was in there, and Austin was freaking out. But I walked in and he was on the couch and this lady was like "are you Mitch?" and I said "um, yeah?", "okay, you're the only person he remembers, he was asking where you were." Then Melisa was there and she said "he doesn't remember me, he just keeps asking about you." It was pretty crazy. So I just sat down and just talked with him, he kept asking me the same things over and over again. I guess getting kicked in the head made him lose his short term memory. But it was only temporary. So I drove him to the hospital, and he still kept asking questions over and over, but he was ok the next day.

It's pretty crazy though how close he and I have come over the years. That when he loses his memory I'm the only person he remembers. ha.

I had my first whack at sales yesterday. It was pretty scary at first and I kind of got caught up and gave away my only mock up of the magazine. I think I could get used to doing it though. Once you get in there and get past the "uhh yeah, I'm trying sell you something", then you're pretty much in. Brian has officially given up after his first try though which sucks. He told me he went to five places and I said "okay, so how were you feeling after the first rejection?" "Um, pretty good, not too bad." "Well what about the fifth?" "Um, suicidal." haha, but I only went to two places because on the second I gave away my example, but I got a new one and I think I could do it.

I have drums in my back seat. Tim and I had our first practice last Saturday and it went really well. We got one song pretty much down, and he's got a ton of other stuff to work with. I just hope he decides to move here so we can do this. I'm a little nervous though because he's not sure what he wants to do and has like 3 other places in mind.

So I really need to sell my amp. If you want to buy and Ampeg combo that's all tube and all amazing please tell me.
Or buy it here: ebay
Or I'm selling this too:
craigslist

p.s. why is the show Made so addicting? Yesterday I watched that instead of the Simpsons. And if you know me very well that might come as a shock to you.

    <lj:music>the procession</lj:music>

So last time I posted I talked about trying out for that band. I'm pretty sure I don't want to do it now. I mean, the music is fun to learn and play, and the two guys I met were awesome but I just don't think I want to be in a metal band, or drive to Lansing twice a week.

Plus the project that Tim and I are putting together is going to be awesome. He played me some of the stuff he's been writing on Friday and it got me really excited. Plus I get to play the drums, so that's awesome. Here's the myspace we started for it.

That terrible song on there is not ours, and everything on there is a joke, so if you look at it please don't take it seriously. Even though we got the name from a Barbara Streisand movie.

    <lj:music>grandfather clock.</lj:music>

So I went to that tryout last night. It went pretty well. I was in the wrong tuning when we started so it was really bad, but then I fixed that and it went 100x smoother. I'm not sure if they want me in the band or not, the one guy said something about how he did, but there were only 2 members there with me, and after I learned the majority of one song, he started showing me more so that's good right? It's really fun, the music is heavy and sweet and it's super fun learning it and playing it. Everyone was super cool, but the drive sucked, I went from work so it was like an hour and 40 minutes. So yeah, it was cool.

Here's where it turned into the worst night ever. My directions home told me to take 69N all the way to 23S. So I stayed on 69N. Well about the time when I should be getting close I start seeing signs for Grand Rapids. Yep, totally in Grand Rapids. Somehow the expressway turned into 96W. Sooo, I got off, then turned back onto west without even realizing it. Then I got off again, and headed east (like the band). So I was freaking out, and screaming to myself "I'm in Grand Rapids!!". I left Lansing at 9 something, it takes an hour to get to Grand Blanc from there. I didn't get home until around 12:30. It was terrible.

So I already posted something today, but that was just saying that I have a new lj. Now I actually have something write about.

I'm trying out for a band in Lansing today. I'm freaking scared as crap. I think I'm just scared because they play heavier music, and I really don't play that kind of music unless I'm writing it. I mean I listen to it all day but, I don't play it that much. So I gotta drive from work to Lansing, and Pat was again, the nicest guy in the world and let me borrow his 5150 to make me seem more metal. Seriously, no one is nicer than Patrick Ives. No one.

So if anyone has added my new thingy yet and read this, wish me luck, pray for me, whatever it is you do please do it.
